How to Verify Your WordPress Site on Pinterest and Google

Those of us with a mild to severe Pinterest addiction, and a blog have the additional problem of needing to verify their blogs.  If you’re like me you looked into it, saw how difficult it appeared to be and decided it wasn’t worth it.  Well the problem was I couldn’t find any really helpful websites when it came to this problem.  While looking at an answer to another question though, I ran across the solution to my Pinterest problem, and it turns out that it’s really not difficult at all.

Step 1:

Log into your Pinterest account and click on “Settings” which is found under your name on the top right hand portion of the site.

Step 2:

Go down to “website” and enter your wordpress URL if you haven’t already, and click “Verify”

Step 3:

At the bottom you should see and click verify with meta tag.

Step 4:

Highlight and copy the tag that is provided.

Step 5:

Log into your wordpress account in another internet tab and go into your dashboard

Step 6:

Under Tools on the left taskbar, click available tools

Step 7:

Scroll down and input the tag that you received from Pinterest and click save at the bottom of the page.

Step 8:

Go back to the Pinterest page where you received the tag from and click below to finish.  I had a problem with this, where it continued to say Verifying… forever.  I refreshed the page which seemed to solve this problem.

Step 9:

Go to your Pinterest login page and you should now see your website at the top of your profile with a red circle with a check next to it.  This means that your blog is verified by Pinterest!

FYI

Verifying your page through google is very similar except you should go to www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ and follow the instructions there.

I hope that this helps others like it helped me!  If you need any other help please contact me here or at brushesandthread@gmail.com.

  1. I really need help doing this and I am already stuck on step 2. On my facebook account under settings, it does not say “website,” or allow me to change my user name. Thank you

    • The instructions that I wrote are for verifying WordPress on Facebook and Google. I see where on step 2 I had accidentally written Facebook instead of Pinterest (which I have since updated and are very embarrassed about…). I want to help you though! What are you trying to do exactly? Either comment below or email me at brushesandthread@gmail.com and I will do my very best to help!

      • Thank you so much for offering to help me! I am an author and what I want to do is verify my wordpress website on Pinterest. I had some one here with me who tried to help but we didn’t get anywhere! We followed Pinterest’s instructions. I can give you any information you need, if you can please help me do this. The problem is that we couldn’t figure out where to paste the meta tag. My wordpress site doesn’t seem to provide a way to paste it in the header or we didn’t know how to do it. I am very low tech. My website was completely designed and set up by some one else who is not available to help me. Thanks again.

      • If you have already gotten your meta tag from Pinterest, open another internet tab, log into your wordpress account and go to the dashboard. To get to your dashboard you can put your mouse over the blog’s name in the right hand corner which will create a drop down box. Then put your mouse on your blog’s name that will appear at the bottom of the drop down box and dashboard and a few other options should appear, click dashboard. I’m sure you’ve done this a million times but I just want to make sure that I cover all the bases and help you the best I can. When you are in your WordPress dashboard you should see some options to the left such as “Shop”, “Media”, “Links” etc. Look down and near the bottom you should see “Tools”. If you put your mouse over it a menu will appear showing available options, click “Available tools”. The last portion of this page should be titled “Website Verification Services”. Under “Pinterest” is where you should paste your meta tag that you received from Pinterest. When you’re done click Save and go back to Pinterest. I think all you have to do on Pinterest is go back to that internet tab and click “finish” when you’re done and it should verify. If it seems like it’s taking forever (mine locked up at this point) just refresh the page and you should still be okay. When you’re done just go to your pinterest account and look at the top of your page and it should be verified. I really hope this helps (please let me know if you still get stuck somewhere!) It really did take me forever to figure this out which is why I posted this, so I’m more than happy to help.

      • Hi, thank you so much! My blog is not a blog per se. It is a page on my website, a blog page. When I click on available tools. Nothing happens at all. No difference appears between my tools and available tools. I haven’t done any of this before. I am not that web saavy. Some one else was running my site but not any longer. Also, on my wordpress site, the dashboard is on the upper left hand corner and that accesses my blog.

      • Do you see “Website Verification Services” under tools, since the pages are the same? If not, I really am stumped. You may want to contact WordPress and see what they say. I’m sorry, I was really hoping that I could help more!

      • Well, I met someone when I was out shopping who said he is studying computer science in college. I sent him an email with what I needed done on Pinterest and it’s done! I have no idea how he did it but it is done! Thank you so much for your kindness and caring, and for all the time you took to try and help!
